Weebly is a drag-and-drop website builder, launched in 2006. Designed for the use of small enterprise owners and creative entrepreneurs, it is a low-cost platform offering website, e-
commerce and integrated marketing solutions to its 50 million-plus users.
So, how does it work?
An introduction to Weebly
Weebly ranks among the most popular free website solutions on the Internet, and for good reason. Though there are numerous advantages available to users who subscribe to the
platform’s premium service, the simplicity of its drag-and-drop operating system can be accessed by those on the free package, and allows for simple, fully-functioning websites to be
put together in a matter of minutes with no formal programming or web design experience.
Signing up
It’s a simple process to sign up to Weebly, all our hosting packages support it. Simply click the blue W icon from within cPanel, and follow the prompts.
Start designing
You can jump into designing your site straight away by clicking on the Design button from the main dashboard. This gives you an impressive range of pre-set templates with a variety of
set-up options from which to select one that’s best for your site. All the layout options can be customised by amending them from the Design Options menu.
Collaborating
If your website is not a solo effort, you can use the Editors tab to add the details of other people who can access your Weebly dashboard and make amendments. Ideal if your company has a web design team, or a separate person updating your blog and news pages.
Creating your first page
Pages are added from the Pages tab. From here you can edit and delete pages, as well as customise the layout from the initial design template you chose. You can have different
layouts for each page, so differentiating between a gallery page, a blog page, and a contact page is easily done.
Adding elements
This is the meat of the Weebly dashboard – your elements. From the elements tab, you can create titles, paragraphs of text with or without pictures, standalone images, videos, contact
forms, and much more. Anything you could reasonably need on any given page. Adding them to your site is a simple matter of selecting, dragging, and dropping the element where you
want it to go. None of this is set in stone. Once you’ve added your text, pictures, and so on, you can continue to arrange them on screen, until you’re happy with the desired effect.
Publish your site
Up to this point, your website exists solely on the Weebly server, and your dashboard. You can preview the site and run it through its paces, making sure all the links work correctly, and
the layout is legible. Once you’re satisfied, publishing your new site to the World Wide Web is simply a case of pressing a button.
That’s all there is to it: little wonder Weebly is such a popular choice for start-up companies and solo enterprises.
